Hey all,
Does anyone know of a good supplier of blanks? I've only just entered the world of shaping and looking to shape myself a fish of 6"3 x 20" x 2.5"
Coastal Foam seem okay but just wondering if there are any others around.

talk to Rob or Carl at South Coast Foam.
Check their site:

They will definitely be able to hook you up. They have some hot new fin systems on the market too:

Is it hard to shape your own surfboard? I want to get into it as a hobby on the weekends.
Does it actually work out cheaper to make own? I've fixed my own boards before, but then i thought it'd be fun to start shaping my own boards.
Are there any books/lessons on how to shape a board and what equipments you need?

Just visit your local shaper, you need to right tools, experience and licence, its pretty hard work from what Ive seen. Lots on internet under 'surfboard shaping'.

It's not as difficult as you would think. That said, I'm a total hack at the moment.
The blank was $60 and I'm paying $230 to get it glassed.
It's bloody good fun though.

aren't you glassing it yourself?
how big was the blank?
$300 doesnt sound too bad for a brand new own-shaped board.

Nah, I'm going to leave the glassing to the pros. Too much room for error in my judgement. Also I don't want to die from fibre glass inhalation. But yeah, $300 for a new board is not bad. I'm sure it will take me a few go's to get it right. At the moment I'm just copying other shapers styles/dimensions etc. I'm sure that is how everyone learns. Give it a go man.

By the way, the blank was 6'5 x 22 x 3.5. I'm shaping a fish: 6'2 x 21" x 2.5

I'm doing it on the Sunny Coast. Black Widow Surfboards at Kawana/Wurtulla. They charge around $250 and they really know their shit.
When you see someone at Burleigh riding a 6'2 fish with SLICKTRIGGER written on it, you'll know it's me.
(just don't expect it to look too good......yet)
