It's thursday night, you've just read Don's surf report and it's not looking too good, Northerly winds and a junky swell. You sit down with an ale and turn on the TV, the 8:30 Lotto draw comes on, that's right i've got a ticket!!! You grab your ticket and watch the numbers come in, Bam!!!! you've got em.

Here's the question, you're loaded with cash but where do you go and who do you take?

I would love to hear your thoughts, i didn't win the lotto but this thought crosses my mind every week.

Pay off the house, buy some investment property and blue chip shares.

Write a resignation for work, call everyone into the conference room to tell them the news. Stand on the table, place the resignation letter on the table, drop my pants and proceed to take a ginourmous dump upon said resignation letter. Walk out with a smile on my face while giving everyone the bird yelling the words "enjoy the rest of your life working assholes".

Grab three close friends and travel around the world surfing and partying

    Check myself into rehab

Live off rent, interest and dividends for the rest of my days

Invest 1 million at 7% live off the interest 70K a year, less a bit of tax gives you about $1400 a week to live on.

Fk blolwing it on a house and having no income or very low income so you still have to work.

I'd just do as I pleased with my $1400 a week.

Travel a bit, say you go to Indo for 4 weeks and take 5 grand that will last you easily, BUT in those 4 weeks you just earnt another 5 grand in interest, Go to Fiji for 4 weeks with 5 grand, and quess what in those 4 weeks you earnt 5 grand.

And on and on and on.

If you spent a large portion of your capital, you now have a house yes but you might only have say 400K left over which will not last forever if you quit work, and its not enough interest to live off.

    Live off the interest IMO.

It's funny you say that Darryn, when i was 17 and working in an ice cream shop a bloke came in every second day for an ice cream, we got talking and i asked the question, "what do you do for a crust?"

Well the answer surprised me, the bloke was a chippy and had actually won a million bucks in gold loto and had the receipt to prove it. The bloke had the best attitude, his response when i said "fuck what you gonna do." was I'm going to have 6 months off, i have worked for 20 years without a holiday, and I earn $700 a week in interest so if i spend less than that i'm not going backwards" He would go to the shops, buy a cd have an ice cream have a good perv on all the sheilas and go home, still a millionaire. I would love to know where the bloke is at now.

    Probably at the maldives, Bastard!!

Dude thats where ppl fall over and end up back at square one.

If you looked around you might find debenture stock or a property trust offering 11% but you risk losing the lot if things go pear shaped.

I'd be happy to sit back dump it in a term deposit collect the risk free 70K a year wouldn't dream of risking the capital as if it were lost you'd be back to the 9-5 grind in a job you'll hate even more.

A bird in the hand my friend.

Harry that bloke might have been me????

Things did go pear shaped and the returns are still well above 7%. Once you have 7 digits a whole new financial world opens up, there are many funds out there that don't need to advertise for business, have entry minimums of 7 figures and have a total pool well into 11 figures.
